Who is the course for?
Completed Stage 1b or equivalent skills including some past tense and the ability to order a meal, change money and go shopping.
What level is the course?
Brazilian Portuguese Stage 1c equivalent to Common European Framework for Languages Level A1
What previous knowledge/experience/skills are required?
Brazilian Portuguese Stage 1b (about 30-40 hours of learning)
What will the course cover and what can I expect to do by the end of it?
By the end of the course students will be able to:-
- Organise accommodation in a foreign country
- obtain information about the facilities and local amenities describing rooms in a house, flat, hotel, enquiring about charges
- Arranging travel buying tickets, checking departure and arrival times, seat reservations, check in procedures
- Introduction to the future tense and consolidation of past tense
What teaching and learning methods will be used on the course?
The teacher is Brazilian, howver, any distinction in vocabulary between Brazilian and Continental Portuguese relevant to the topic will be discussed by teacher. You will work in pairs/ small groups to practice speaking and listening and a variety of resources, games and simulations will be used to promote learning.
Homework is set every week and is a vital part of your learing. You will be invited to visit Moodle to enhance your learning.
How do we assess your progress on the course?
Your tutor will listen to your speaking in class and mark your written work, giving you regular feedback on your progress.

What can I do after completing this course?
Brazilian Portuguese Stage 2a
What extra study/practice am I expected to do outside the class?
Regular homework is essential and revision of what has been done on the previous lesson is highly advisable.
Are there any extra costs (e.g. materials, equipment or books that I need to buy before or during the course)?
You will need a pen, paper, enthusiasm and a will to learn. If you need a book the tutor will advise you on which one to buy.
