Who is the course for?

NEW FOR SEPTEMBER 2012!

Students with an interest in developing their making and decorating skills in a more controlled and considered way and who are keen to research and develop their own creative ideas in ceramics.

What level is the course?

Level 2

What previous knowledge/experience/skills are required?

Experience of doing a Introductory Ceramics course would be advantageous.

Basic making and decorating skills is required.

What will the course cover and what can I expect to do by the end of it?

  • Development of hand building and throwing skills.
  • Development of surface decoration and glazing skills.
  • Researching and developing individual design ideas.
  • Producing final ceramic outcome in response to brief.

What teaching and learning methods will be used on the course?

  • Demonstrations.
  • Discussions.
  • Practical tasks.

How do we assess your progress on the course?

  • Regular individual tutorials.
  • Group presentations and discussions.
  • Assessment of final outcomes.

What can I do after completing this course?

You could consider doing a higher level course or continue to develop your own work.

What extra study/practice am I expected to do outside the class?

  • Research in preparation for practical work.
  • Collect visual resources.
  • Develop ideas / designs.
  • Plan individual practical studio activity.

Are there any extra costs (e.g. materials, equipment or books that I need to buy before or during the course)?

It is recommended that you bring the following items with you:

  • A3 Plastic presentation folder.
  • A3 Sketchbook.
  • Note book.
  • Drawing kit.
